Store steps up to plate for Wallingford's Project Graduation
March 31, 2010 –WALLINGFORD - High school students, faculty, local officials and even Wally the Green Monster, from the Boston Red Sox, kicked off a fundraiser for Wallingford's Project Graduation at Cumberland Farms Wednesday afternoon.
Throughout April, Cumberland Farms will donate 20 cents for every hot or cold dispenser beverage sold to the high school program, which is an all-night drug- and alcohol-free celebration for Wallingford seniors. Cumberland Farms recently held its grand opening at 868 N. Colony Road, the former location of a Thornton's gas station and convenience store.
"It's really thoughtful and generous," said Leanna Verch, a Sheehan High School senior class officer who was at Cumberland Farms to represent her school.
About $11,000 has been raised so far, a bit less than usual at this time of year, according to Jackie Podeswa, a seven-year volunteer and coordinator for Project Graduation.
